Welcome to Our Website...

We are Jim & Alice LaPeer, longtime residents of Cannon Township, MI.   Our home is located in the Bear Creek valley overlooking the Cannonsburg Ski Lodge.  This is our Web site… where we talk a little about ourselves, our family & friends, share our travels, and expound a little on History & Politics. You are welcome to peruse our site, and enjoy whatever you may find here. We update on a regular basis. If you are family, be sure to check the “Family History” page – Lots of great family stories there! Also, be sure to click on the many highlighted internet links and the embedded "in the picture" Hotspots that we have added; Each will open a new window with additional information of interest about the picture or topic.

Resources used in building this site... a trusty old Canon camera (Digital Rebel EOS), Epson V700 Scanner, Dreamweaver CS5, Photoshop Elements 9, Jalbum, and some great travels over the years.   And to be perfectly honest this Web Site provides a nice hobby outlet for my technical side.  I am a retired Township Treasurer... with a 35-year background in Information Technology Management prior to that...and I still find it fun to sit and write a few lines of code every now & then.

Lastly... as in all things, we give thanks to God first; He created the beauty that our modest pictures seek to capture. He created the Heavens, and the Earth… He created our Family, and our Friends... leading us to declare, “As for me and my House, we will serve the Lord”. (Joshua 24:15)   Amen.

October 2011 - Mackinaw City, MI ...    250th Anniversary of our 5th ggrandfather John McGulpin's settling at McGulpin Point.

Jim @ McGulpin Rock, named after our 5th ggrandfather.McGulpin Rock.. or as the Odawas call it, Chi-sin (Big Rock), was first noted by French explorer Etienne Brule in 1615... Five years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock.

In 1749, it was mentioned in the first known map of the Great Lakes, and was placed on that map as a navigational aide for the French settlement at old Fort Michilimackinac.

St Ignatius Catholic Church... located on the beautiful Lake Michigan shorline between Cross Village and Harbor Springs.
St. Ignatius Church... on the shore of Lake Michigan, between Cross Village and Harbor Springs.   Here in 1823 our 3rd ggrandfather (William McGulpin) and his brother (Mathieu McGulpin) signed a letter by 22 Odawa Chiefs to President James Monroe requesting that he send "a Minister of the same denomination as the Black Robes (French Catholic) to teach them Religion, art, and agriculture."
